Praised for his “vocal power and finesse” and “irresistible hijinks,” baritone Andy Papas is sought after for his impeccable musicianship and mastery of comic repertoire.
During the 2026–2027 season, Andy returns to two familiar houses, singing the title role in Don Pasquale with Pacific Northwest Opera and Schaunard in La bohème with Anchorage Opera. This past season was marked by favorite roles, company debuts, and new repertoire. Andy sang his first mainstage Tonio in Pagliacci, earning praise for his “chilling” performance. He followed with Pandolfe in Massenet’s Cendrillon with Vashon Opera and his signature Major General in The Pirates of Penzance with Salt Marsh Opera. In 2026, he debuts with Opera Orlando as Baron Zeta in The Merry Widow, performs his first Verdi Requiem with the Fox Valley Symphony Orchestra, and appears as Antonio in Le nozze di Figaro with Raylynmor Opera. Highlights of the 2024–2025 season included the title role in Verdi’s Falstaff with Pacific Northwest Opera, a debut with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra in Rhiannon Giddens’ Omar’s Journey, and role debuts as Mustafà in L’italiana in Algeri with Opera in the Heights and Anchorage Opera. Additional recent engagements include the Music Master in Ariadne auf Naxos (Vashon Opera), Benoit in La bohème (Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra), Major General (The Pirates of Penzance, Opera Naples), Baron Zeta (The Merry Widow, Opera Saratoga), Pandolfe (Cendrillon, Opera Company of Middlebury), and the title role in Falstaff and Tonio in Pagliacci with Raylynmor Opera. An accomplished actor as well as singer, Andy has appeared as Mr. Bumble in Oliver!, George/Lord Boxington in My Fair Lady, Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof, and Chef Louis in The Little Mermaid. His recordings include releases on Bridge Records, Albany Records, and New World Records. Andy holds degrees from the University of Houston and the University of Michigan and was raised in the Boston area. Reviews:
