Hailed by International News/Opera Japonica for her “smoky tones,” Cuban-American mezzo-soprano, Dr. Olga Perez Flora is a versatile artist known internationally for her engaging performances across opera, musical theatre, song and oratorio. Her 2025-2026 season includes a debut with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde, a debut as Anita (West Side Story) with Indianapolis Opera, an upcoming role debut as Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti (Company TBA), and the release of her recording of Cuban art songs, Canciones de mi Corazon.
 
Dr. Flora’s favorite operatic performances include Lupe Rivera in Rodriguez’ Frida, the Mother and the Sea in Jorge Martin’s Before Night Falls, Toypurina in Armienta’s Zorro and the title role in Carmen with Opera Southwest, Tisbe (La cenerentola) with Arizona Opera, Suzuki (Madama Butterfly) with Opera Columbus, Carmen with Amarillo Opera, Eunice (A Streetcar Named Desire), Olga (Eugene Onegin) and a filmed version of Michael Ching’s Completing the Picture with Opera Company of Middlebury, Third Lady (Die Zauberflöte) with Erie Chamber Orchestra, Flora (La traviata) with Northeast Symphony, Zita (Gianni Schicchi) with New Jersey Opera Theater and Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro) with Opera Festival di Roma.
 
On the recital and concert stage, Dr. Flora was the first prize winner of the American Prize: Women in Song & Oratorio in 2022. Her signature Cuban song program, Canciones de mi Isla: Songs from my Island, has garnered broad international acclaim. Other highlights include Verdi’s Requiem with the Hollywood Concert Series and Performance International, Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes with Chatter, Mozart’s Requiem and Handel’s Messiah and Israel in Egypt at Disney Hall, West Side Story highlights with the Reno Philharmonic, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and Bach’s Cantata BWV 4 with the Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra, Alkan’s Marcia funerale morte d’un pappagallo with the Jupiter Chamber Symphony Players, Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the University of Redlands, and a concert with Cuban composer Leo Brouwer.
 
Dr. Flora is currently an Associate Professor of Voice and Head of Voice at the University of New Mexico and the Artistic Director of the Gobbi Villa summer young artist program in Rome, Italy. She also co-hosts a podcast, Key Change, produced by the Santa Fe Opera. She holds a DMA in Vocal Performance from The Ohio State University, a Master of Music in Opera Theatre from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Northern Arizona University.
