Praised for her “magnetic stage presence” and her “dramatic intensity” by Opera News, Ukranian-American soprano Anastasiya Roytman is quickly establishing herself as one of the most exciting talents in the international opera world today. Possessing a “prodigious range” (L. Lerhman), Ms. Roytman began her career as a mezzo-soprano before recently moving into soprano repertoire. Upcoming engagements include Frau in VOM FISCHER UN SYNER FRU (Schoeck) and scenes from SALOME with Opera Sakrale (Berlin and Hamburg, Germany), and a concert tour with the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. This season she joins the Danish Philharmonic in a tour throughout Denmark.
In recent seasons, Ms. Roytman went on tour with the Royal Danish Ballet in South and East Africa, singing the heroines in LA VIERGE (Massenet) and LA TRAVIATA. In New York she performed joint and solo recitals presented by Opera America, Tribeca Performing Arts Center and Le Poisson Rouge. She also appeared as the soprano soloist in Mendelssohn's ELIJAH with American Music Festivals in Chicago, followed by an appearance with Munich Philharmonic Orchestra members, performing Vitellia in LA CLEMENZA DI TITO. She finished the season with a gala concert at Teatro Morelos in Mexico. Highlights from previous seasons include performances of TOSCA in the title role with American Lyric Opera at the historic United Palace Theatre, Senta in DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER with the United Nations Orchestra, Amelia in UN BALLO IN MASCHERA at Symphony Space, and Tatyana in EUGENE ONEGIN with Moscow Chamber Opera, New Jersey State Opera, and Garden State Opera. She also created the role of Baroness Strahl in the opera MASQUERADE by American composer J. Morgulas, which was originally premiered at the International House of Music in Moscow. Her portrayal of the character won her rave reviews by Opera News, which praised her “solid high notes” and “intelligent acting.” Her concert appearances include the English premiere of Dargomyzhsky’s RUSALKA in New York and appearances with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the New Hampshire Music Festival. Outside of her stage performances, Ms. Roytman is currently participating in a film project of DIE WALKÜRE in collaboration with Bayreuth Festival, and made a critically-acclaimed debut in the role of Elle in LA VOIX HUMAINE for Russian National Television from the Dramatic Arts Festival in Moscow. Ms. Roytman is the first prize recipient of the first international “Die Wiener Festivalbrücken” competition in Vienna, Austria, an Otto Edelmann Society competition finalist, and a Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions encouragement award recipient. Ms. Roytman made her operatic debut at sixteen, singing with the Kaliningrad Philharmonic Orchestra. She then became the youngest student at the prestigious Gnessin Academy of Music in Moscow, where she received her Bachelor’s degree. She also holds a Master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music. A devoted humanitarian, Ms. Roytman has given and participated in benefit concerts and fundraisers for numerous charitable causes, including the Voices of September 11th Organization, NYC Public Schools, Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief, and the Cohen Children’s Hospital.
