Praised by Opera Wire for his “strong, earthy timbre,” South Korean bass-baritone Geeseop Kim is quickly making a name for himself on U.S. stages. He was the first place winner of the 2019 Edward M. Murray International Competition of Voice and will make his Opera Ithaca debut in their upcoming season. He also recently created the role of Mosch in the world premiere of Harry Bialor’s THE UPRISING OF THE WARSAW GHETTO, a role he will reprise in 2020. Mr. Kim’s other upcoming performances include role debuts as Zuniga (CARMEN) with Regina Opera and Bonze (MADAMA BUTTERFLY) with Long Island Lyric Opera.
 
Mr. Kim’s other recent performances include Peter (HÄNSEL UND GRETEL), Colline (LA BOHÈME), Dulcamara (L’ELISIR D’AMORE) and Ferrando (IL TROVATORE) with Regina Opera, Figaro (LE NOZZE DI FIGARO) and Leporello (DON GIOVANNI) with New York Lyric Opera Theatre, Sarastro (DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE) with Opera 691, and Commendatore (DON GIOVANNI) with East Meets West Opera.
 
An accomplished concert artist and competitor, Mr. Kim made his Carnegie Hall debut in SEONBI, a work created for the stage by Korea’s Chosun Opera, and was a featured soloist with the Atempo Chamber Ensemble. Mr. Kim was among the winners of the 2018 New York Lyric Opera Division II Competition, the second place winner at the 2016 Ades Vocal Competition and the third place winner at the 2016 New Jersey State Opera Competition, as well as a finalist in the 2019 Classical Singer Competition and the 2016 New Jersey Verismo Opera Competition,
 
Mr. Kim recently emigrated to the United States to complete a Master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music, where he sang Walter (LUISA MILLER) and Superintendent Budd (ALBERT HERRING), as well as the bass solos in Stravinsky PULCINELLA with the Chamber Sinfonia and Bach CANTATA BWV 140 with the Baroque Ensemble. He also holds a degree from Hanyang University in Seoul, where he sang the title role in DON PASQUALE, among others. He currently makes his home in New Jersey.
